cleaning glass jewelry

Keeping your jewelry looking its best is an important part of any wardrobe. If you have glass jewelry, like I do,  you don’t have to worry about it becoming tarnished or dull with time. With a few simple steps and some care, you can keep your glass jewelry sparkling and beautiful for years to come. Read on to learn the 3 best tips for keeping your glass jewelry in top condition!

1. Keeping your jewelry clean and sparkling is easy with this simple cleaning method. Start by soaking your jewelry in a warm, mild soap solution for a few minutes, then use a soft brush or cloth to gently scrub away dirt and residue. Finally, rinse with clean water and dry thoroughly for a beautiful shine that lasts!  For especially grimy glass pieces, soak you pieces for awhile longer, and scrub a bit more.

2. Make a simple cleaning solution by mixing 4 parts of white vinegar and one part alcohol in a bowl, then soak the jewelry for 5 minutes. Use a soft brush or cloth to scrub away dirt, rinse with clean water, and dry thoroughly.  Note:  Vinegar is a mild acid, and will tarnish silver.  If your jewelry contains some sterling silver, use #1 or #3 to clean your glass.  Also, please note, if you soak your glass too long, it may etch the glass.  Vinegar is a light acid. 3. 70% or better rubbing alcohol is an effective way to clean off stubborn dirt and grime from glass surfaces. All you need is a soft towel and some rubbing alcohol. Apply the alcohol to the affected area, rub with the soft cloth, then rinse it off with water afterwards for a perfect finish.

4.  BONUS:  toothpaste.  A small amount of toothpaste rubbed on the glass with remove dirt and grime. Place a small amount of toothpaste on the glass, rub in with your fingers or a soft cloth.  Then rinse.  Works great on gold, silver and diamonds too!!  (tip from Dori Settles)
