Heading to the gem and mineral show in Tucson, Arizona?
Shows start this Friday January 26.
Here are some tips to help make your visit easy and more enjoyable.
- Comfortable shoes are a must as you’ll be doing a lot of walking and exploring different booths throughout the event. This show (or actually shows) is HUGE! Across the whole city. Lots and lots of walking.
- Pick up the BIG show guide. It has a section of shows, and days and times they are open. Go through it and plan, plan, plan.
- It is winter, (yes, even here in Tucson, AZ). Bring layers. Cold outside, as you start to shop, you may get warm. Layer up with a sweater or hoodie. Layers is the way to be and stay comfortable. (Note: many shows are in tents, and while there is some heat, it may not be adequate for your comfort level)
- It’s also advisable to carry a reusable water bottle. Stay Hydrated. Many places will have free refill stations.
- Snacks. Nice to take a break for a real lunch, but a healthy snake can hold you over during a binge shopping experience, bringing light healthy snacks (read apple, banana, granola bar…) will tide you over until lunch time.
- Bring Cash. While some vendors may accept credit or debit cards, many still prefer cash transactions. By having cash on hand, you can avoid any inconvenience or disappointment when making your purchases. Having the right form of payment makes your transactions smoother. (Note: I too love cash, but also accept credit cards)
- A small tote bag or backpack. Easiest way to carry your exciting purchases!
- Small notebook and pen to jot down where you want to return to.
- Get ready for an exciting adventure filled with stunning BEADS, fossils, gems and minerals that will leave you awe-inspired!
- If you are a dealer, bring a copy of your wholesale license, and a sheet of stickers with your name, address and wholesale license number on it. Makes the process go much faster, and easier
By being well-prepared with these essential items, you can make the most out of your visit to this renowned gem and mineral event in Tucson.

Parking is in the back and on the street. (look for areas without parking permits needed… there are a lot available on 9th street near Ace Hardware)
Just down the street (to the west) is a great coffee shop (Presta) at the corner of 9th street and 3rd. ave. and one more block west is 4th avenue. Lots of food and beverages. An easy stroll to take a break between shopping.
